    2024.10.21 Press Release

NCSOFT Announces Formation of Four New Subsidiaries through Corporate Split-off

Three independent game studios – Studios X, Y, and Z – will be established to enhance global competitiveness and focus on the following IPs: THRONE AND LIBERTY, LLL, and TACTAN

NC AI will also be created as a separate entity to drive AI technology development and business expansion.

An internal realignment will follow, including project closures, staff relocation, and a voluntary retirement program.

NCSOFT today announced a strategic decision to establish four new wholly-owned subsidiaries through a corporate split-off, following approval at an extraordinary board meeting.

This initiative aims to maximize creativity and innovation while laying the groundwork for sustainable growth in the global market.

The split-off will create four privately held companies: three independent game development studios and one AI-focused entity.

The new game studios will be dedicated to the development of following IPs: THRONE AND LIBERTY (TL), LLL, and TACTAN. Studio X will continue the development of TL, while Studio Y and Studio Z will manage the development of LLL and TACTAN, respectively.

TL has been delivering stable services since its global launch on October 1, showcasing strong competitiveness in the global market. With its transition to an independent studio, it is expected to grow into a leading global IP. The shooting game project, LLL, and the strategy game, TACTAN, have both demonstrated significant potential in the global market and will focus on further enhancing their development capabilities and deepening expertise in their respective genres.

NCSOFT’s AI research division, NC Research, will also be spun off to form a new company, NC AI. This entity will specialize in advancing NCSOFT’s proprietary AI technologies, including VARCO LLM, and will apply these innovations to game development as well as explore new business ventures.

An extraordinary general meeting of shareholders is scheduled for November 28 to confirm the split-off and the creation of the new subsidiaries. The four new entities will officially be established on February 1, 2025.

This strategic realignment also includes broader internal reorganization. As part of NCSOFT’s focus and prioritization strategy for efficient resource allocation, certain development projects and support functions will be downsized or closed. This process will involve the reassignment of internal members and the implementation of a voluntary retirement program.

Through this strategic shift, NCSOFT aims to create new opportunities and enhance overall efficiency in corporate management by implementing bold changes.
