NCSOFT today announced a KRW 37 billion investment in VIC GAME STUDIOS, a Korean studio specializing in subculture games. The deal includes acquiring equity stakes in the studio and securing global publishing rights.
With this deal, NCSOFT has secured global publishing rights for VIC GAME STUDIOS’s upcoming subculture title ‘BREAKERS: Unlock the World’ (hereinafter BREAKERS) and has acquired equity interests in the company. The two companies aim to establish a long-term partnership focused on mutual growth and close collaboration in game development, technology, and business.
VIC GAME STUDIOS, founded in 2020 by CEO Jaeyoung Choi, specializes in developing sophisticated animation-style RPGs and subculture genre games.
In 2023, VIC GAME STUDIOS launched ‘Black Clover Mobile: The Opening of Fate’, a game based on the popular animation IP (Intellectual Property) ‘Black Clover’, which earned acclaim for its development capabilities and game quality. The studio is currently working on BREAKERS, an original IP in the animation RPG genre.
Jaeyoung Choi, CEO of VIC GAME STUDIOS, stated, “We are thrilled to partner with NCSOFT on our first original IP. Through our close collaboration, we aim to bring the unique experience of BREAKERS to gamers around the globe.”
Byungmoo Park, co-CEO of NCSOFT, commented, “Our recent investments, both domestic and international, indicate that we are now in the execution phase of securing new IPs, as we committed earlier this year. We anticipate that publishing BREAKERS will be a valuable step in our strategy to expand our game portfolio.” He added, “By leveraging the development capabilities and expertise of both companies, we are poised to deliver innovative games to the global market.”
NCSOFT is dedicated to continually investing in the expansion of its game portfolio and global market presence. On July 30, NCSOFT announced a seed round investment in Swedish game studio, Moon Rover Games, which specializes in shooting game development.
