NCSOFT announced today the transition of its THRONE AND LIBERTY (TL) division into an independent game development studio, marking a strategic step to expand the game’s global business.
This strategic decision aims to sharpen TL’s creative direction, streamline decision-making, and accelerate its growth as a leading global IP.
The new studio, tentatively named Studio X, will be led by Moonyoung Choi, who has been at the forefront of TL's development as its Captain. Under his leadership, Studio X will focus on driving innovation and global expansion while maintaining seamless service for TL players worldwide.
Since its global release on October 1, TL has quickly gained traction across key markets, including North America and Europe. In its first week, the game attracted over 3 million players, with a cumulative playtime of more than 24 million hours. To date, TL has drawn over 4 million players globally. TL also topped Steam’s Global Top Sellers list and remains one of the top performers in major markets such as the United States, Japan, Canada, France, and Germany.
NCSOFT co-CEOs Taekjin Kim and Byungmoo Park emphasized their vision for the new studio in a letter to Amazon Games, stating: “We expect the new development studio will foster a more creative and dynamic environment, enabling us to further enhance the quality of TL. With our strong partnership with Amazon Games, we aim to transform this new entity into an innovative global game studio.”
NCSOFT and Amazon Games launched TL globally on October 1 across North, Central, and South America, Europe, Oceania, and Japan. TL is available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X.
